Two Mayo ’keepers now on injured list

Mike Finnerty

TWO of the three goalkeepers in the Mayo senior football squad missed their club’s County Senior League matches on Sunday last due to injuries.

Breaffy’s Rob Hennelly (ankle) and Ballinrobe’s Kenneth O’Malley (hand) were both sidelined due to their respective injuries with Ballina’s David Clarke the only county goalkeeper to feature in club action.

The Mayo News understands that both Hennelly and O’Malley are facing a race against time to be fit for the first round of the Mayo senior club football championship the weekend after next, May 16/17.

Meanwhile, Seamus O’Shea also missed Breaffy’s Mayo SFL win over Claremorris last weekend due to a hamstring injury while Tom Cunniffe and Barry Moran were also notable absentees from the Mitchels’ line-up against Ballina.

Elsewhere, Jason Gibbons, who has been troubled by a hamstring injury in recent months, started his first competitive game for six months when he lined out for Ballintubber against Hollymount/Carramore.

But Cillian O’Connor’s participation in the Mayo club championship in less than a fortnight’s time remains uncertain as he rehabs from his knee ligament injury.
