GIVE IT A LASH?Big lashes and bold eyeshadow are bang on trend this season.
Autumn/winter beauty trends
The runways were awash with an amazing array of colours for eyes, lips, face and nails at the autumn/winter shows this year, and this winter your inner vamp will make her exit through the eyes.
False lashes fluttered on lids with a colour spectrum from lights and brights to taupe and metallics. Liquid eyeliner was applied with cat flicks at the corner of the eyes, and brows were still well defined. Most models wore false lashes, often up to three pairs! Mascara appeared clumpy and the whole effect was pure drama. The longer the lashes the better, it seems.
Blue eye shadow dominated in shades from cobalt to sapphire, navy, and turquoise. Purples, pinks and greens also featured along with fabulous metallics in champagne, browns and bronzes for sparkle. It’s a wonderful time to try a bit of colour on the eyes. Because the skin on eyelids often has tiny veins or can redden I always recommend an eye primer for an even finish.
Red lipstick will always be bang on trend but this winter every colour goes. It’s become rather trendy to use the same product on both lips and cheeks, depends I suppose which particular shade you opt for. Shades of nude to berry reds will be the order of the day.
Here are some of my favourite products for the season.
Lancôme has raised the mascara bar with Grandiose (€30). The swan-shaped wand accesses the corners with ease and the pigment is jet black giving a false-lash appearance. Brilliant!
NYC do a fabulous range of eye shadows at even more fabulous prices. I’m mad about their Individual Eyes range, which comes complete with shadows, highlighter, primer and illuminator. Amazing value at €3.99. Available at Dunnes, Penneys and some chemists. Check out their lipsticks and nail polishes also.
Benecos is an organic range and their little duo pots of baked colours eyeshadows (€9) are perfect for anyone who loves natural products. Buy online at wapo.ie
Primers are wonderful for blurring imperfections and boosting radiance. Essence My Base Skin Perfection Make-Up Base ticks all the boxes, and at €4.79 it’s a bargain. At selected chemists nationwide.
Max Factor’s Face Finity all-day primer (€13.99) is also a great little worker and extends the wear of your foundation.
When it comes to serums, Lancôme Visionnaire advanced skin corrector is my hero right now. This product is amazing. Though expensive at €70 for 30ml, a little goes a long way. For use morning and night it penetrates deep down into the epidermis.
Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum (€33 for 30ml) is a hard act to follow, I had four ladies using it every day for four weeks, and they were seriously impressed with its efficacy in softening wrinkles.
For anyone who wakes up with oily shiny skin, Vichy Normaderm Night Detox (€17) promises you skin you’ve previously only dreamed of. I got a couple of ladies with oily skin to try this and they loved it.
If you’re not a concealer girl and wonder what all the fuss is about then you would be well advised to take yourself into Aldi for the Lacura Concealer Pen which knocks the socks off all its hugely expensive competitors. Wonderful for under-eye shadows. Available in two shades. At a cost of €4.99 you will be indebted to me for recommending it!
NYX is my flavour of the month for highlighters. Born to Glow (€9.49) liquid illuminator is available in two shades Gleam and Sunbeam. Available at Shaws, Littlewoods and selected chemists nationwide.
Everyone has their favourite lipstick. Two of my favourites are Renew Lipstick (13 different shades) from Rimmel (€7.99) and Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick 3.5g (€26).
Nude, pink, red, metallic silver and gold, and the newest shade, navy – take your pick! NYC Expert Last seven-day nail polish comes in a treasure trove of luxurious shades that add style and glamour. At €1.99 you could buy a few.
