Belmullet native ordained to the priesthood in Ballina Cathedaral

Bishop John Fleming of Killala ordained Rev Thomas Doherty to the priesthood for service in the Diocese of Killala last Sunday, November 24, in Saint Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina.
Fr Tom celebrated his first Mass yesterday, Monday, November 25 at 7.30pm in the Church of Our Lady of Dolours, Shanahee, Belmullet, where he is a native of.
Fr Tom is the son of Carmel and the late Patrick Doherty. He has one brother, Darren, and one sister, Anita and was educated at Aughalasheen National School, the Convent Secondary School, Belmullet, and at the National University of Ireland Galway, where he received an honours Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Geography in 2007.
Fr Tom entered the National Seminary in 2007 and undertook his studies for the priesthood in Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth and also at the Pontifical Irish College in Rome. During his time in seminary he undertook various pastoral placements in the Diocese of Killala, including a pastoral year in the parish of Ballina.
Fr Tom was ordained to the diaconate on July 28 this year.
