Our third and final under 20 podcast of the season looks back at Sunday’s All Ireland final defeat to Kildare. On a dramatic afternoon the lads were left with plenty to talk about.
The Mayo under 20s will take to the field in Croke Park on Sunday for the All Ireland under 20 final against Kildare throwing in at 1:15pm. Michael Solan’s squad are underdogs but after their fearless and fervent performance in beating Derry in the semi final they appear to be quietly confident of delivering another underage title for the county.
Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada was the place to be for Mayo football supporters last Saturday afternoon. Those who made it to Carrick-on-Shannon got to witness a pulsating All-Ireland U20 semi-final contest, in which Mayo's young guns beat off a strong challenge from Derry to emerge the winners by three points.
None of us expected Mayo's inter-county year at senior level to finish before the end of June but the defeat to Kildare in Newbridge meant that's what happened.
The highways and byways of the qualifiers have given us great days out over the last few summers. Part of the fun has been the dicing-with-death element of these knockout fixtures, in which, up until yesterday evening, we've always managed to secure the wins we've needed to keep the run going.
