The high winds whipped up by Storm Ciara blew hard at Pairc Tailteann in Navan on Sunday. Out on the pitch, Mayo had to withstand a second half storm brewed up by Meath but Kevin McLoughlin was on hand to quell the tempest as the visitors emerged with a precious one-point win.
In this episode of the Mayo News football podcast, we take in the action from the game in Navan. Starting the show, co-hosts Rob Murphy and John Gunnigan of the Mayo GAA Blog are joined after the game in the press box at Pairc Tailteann by Mayo News sports editor Mike Finnerty where they reflect on a contest that had gone right down to the wire. Then we plunge into the game with Rob and John to hear about the key moments in which this contest was decided.
Post-game we get reaction from Mayo manager James Horan and, later on, from his Meath counterpart Andy McEntee. Rob also chats after the match with Mayo News columnist Sean Rice, who wrote the match report for the paper when Mayo last played a League game in Navan, way back in 2003.
Rob, John and Mike then look back on the game in more detail, their discussion also touching on Mayo's agonising penalty shootout elimination from the U20 Connacht championship the day before. We hear post-game thoughts from Mayo U20 manager Mike Solan, who spoke with Ger Flanagan of the Mayo News after Galway had emerged the winners of the shootout at MacHale Park.
