John Aldridge to visit Mayo for fund-raiser

LEGEND John Aldridge

Mike Finnerty

IT’S not every day that a bona fide Republic of Ireland soccer legend holds court in Mayo.
But fans of Liverpool FC and the national team are in for a real treat on Thursday week next (November 22) when John Aldridge visits Westport for an official engagement.
The former Republic of Ireland striker, who won 69 caps and scored 19 goals for the country during his illustrious career, will be in Janey Mac’s on Bridge Street for a chat about his life and times as a goalscoring machine.
The ‘Evening with John Aldridge’ is being organised as a fund-raiser for the Westport Lions Club and, because only a very limited number of tickets are available, the advice is to snap them up as soon as possible.
‘Aldo’ also played with Newport County, Oxford United, Real Sociedad and Tranmere Rovers during his professional career and scored a total of 363 goals in 673 games.
He won a First Division League medal and an FA Cup during his time with Liverpool.
Tickets for this intimate event cost €35 and are on sale from Janey Mac’s Bar. They include a free pint and a donation to the Westport Lions’ Club.
The action will kick-off at 8pm next week.
