‘SUGAR Ray’ Moylette from Islandeady continued his winning ways in Boston last Saturday night and pushed his professional boxing record to an impressive 11-0.
The Mayo lightweight defeated American Daniel Sostre in an eight-round contest in front of a packed house at the Bank of America Pavilion.
The former European gold medallist proved too strong for Sostre, himself a former New York champion, outscoring the 34 year-old Puerto Rican native by 79-73 on the judges scorecards.
The victory marks Moylette’s 11th in only 14 months as a professional.
The well-known St Anne’s BC, Westport man plans to celebrate by jetting off on his honeymoon with wife, Sharon, after getting married last Christmas.
“The journey to the top is the best part about the top,” Moylette wrote on his social media pages. “I’m blessed to have such great friends and that’s exactly what you guys are. I’m constantly overwhelmed by all your support.”
The 28 year-old told The Mayo News last week that he plans to return to the ring in the Autumn before a much-anticipated homecoming in Mayo next November, which is understood to be in advanced talks.
