CLAREMORRIS-BASED Michael Gillan will compete in the 2017 Superbike Cup Short Circuit season in Ireland this year. Michael, originally from Sheffield, England, has resided in Claremorris for the past 12 years.
No stranger to the motorbike racing scene, Michael has raced in the Isle of Man and other circuits. He is currently preparing his new 170 bhp Suzuki GSXR-1000 K6 motorcycle for the first series of races in Mondello Park.
A mechanical engineer by profession, Michael works in Galway and is looking for financial sponsorship or product support for his season-long campaign.
Michael has been a keen motorbike enthusiast for many years and is well known in that close-knit community, finishing high up on the leader-board in the Isle of Man Manx Grand Prix. He finished fourth in the Irish Supersport 600 Short Circuit Racing Championships.
On moving to road racing, he recorded a creditable sixth in the Senior Support Championship.
Murphy Sandblasting, Ballina, is currently supporting Michael’s cause and return to the circuit. He is anxious to secure further sponsorship for this demanding sport, and would love to hear from any person or company who would consider coming on board as a sponsor.
The Superbike Cup Short Circuit will be staged over 15 weekends and secures some coverage on the terrestrial TV stations. There are also other avenues available for sponsors such as the regional newspapers and social media outlets.
Michael Gillan can be contacted on 087 9239305 or email michaelgillan79@hotmail.com.
