My first cousin, Pat Burke, is the first Irishman to play in the NBA!
If money was no object, what would you do all day?
Spending my days off with the family is all I need.
What’s your favourite TV show?
Sons of Anarchy.
What makes you nervous?
Heading on a night out with Brian Conroy!
What makes you angry?
Online trolls – keyboard warriors! Know a few of them!
Any sporting superstitions?
I ask both of my young girls before any match ‘How many goals will Daddy score today?’ …Have yet to hit that target!
Biggest messer in the squad?
Peter Quinn. Great man for paying his fines and will always make sure your hair is washed as he keeps putting shampoo in it. There is a story out there that he has a fetish of playing one game a season wrapped in bandaging!
What do you miss most about being a kid?
Jumping on round bales, getting chased by farmers. No smartphones, you could actually talk to your friends! Penny sweets! Living on Glebe Street [Ballinrobe] … to name a few.
Who was your first crush?
I’d like the use of my legs for the upcoming season, thank you very much!
What’s your most prized possession?
My left foot!!
Most under-rated player in the Mayo League?
Would have to say Niall Gallagher. Earned the Goalkeeper of the Year award last year and has been consistent for many a year now, keeping us in games so many times. I was delighted that he got recognised last year for all his hard work. He is first on the training pitch and last off. For a teacher, though, asks an awful lot of questions!
Last time you cried?
That slip… Stevie G/Chelsea! Enough said!
Best thing about being a Mayo League player?
Soccer has been good to me. The kids will enjoy the scrapbook! Have played with some fine footballers with Ballinrobe Town, Westport Utd and Ballyglass.
Worst thing about being a Mayo League player?
Not being 18 again!!
Best advice you ever got?
Liam Jennings, my manager in Ballinrobe, used to say to me when I started playing junior soccer at 17 years of age: “If that football falls on your left foot, let fly!” Stuck with me ever since.
Describe yourself in three words?
