TWO of the most senior positions at the top table of Mayo GAA Board will be contested at next month’s County Convention in Ballina.
Outgoing PRO Aiden McLoughlin confirmed to The Mayo News last night (Monday) that former secretaries Kevin O’Toole and Seán Feeney are set to go head to head for the treasurer’s chair. JP Lambe is vacating that position, which he has held since 1997.
Feeney held the position of secretary from 1995 until 2011, and had the role in a full-time capacity for the last three years of that period. A former secondary school teacher, he sought the chairman’s job at last year’s Convention, but was beaten by Mike Connelly. His name was submitted by the Ballintubber club on Sunday night last to County Board secretary Vincent Neary.
Businessman O’Toole has also served as PRO on two occasions, and succeeded Feeney as secretary. The Tourmakeady clubman stepped down in January 2013, citing family circumstances and work commitments.
Meanwhile, there will be a four-way contest for the job of PRO, with Tom Reynolds (Westport), Brendan Geraghty (Burrishoole), Paul Cunnane (Davitts) and Enda Munnelly (Kilfian) interested in succeeding Aiden McLoughlin, whose five-year term is expiring.
The deadline for nominations and motions passed last Sunday.
