GALWAY United have agreed a contract extension with prolific striker Derek Glynn which will see him with the Tribesmen to the end of the 2008 season.
Glynn (24) has recently been propelled into both local and national limelight, scoring an incredible seven goals in five games, and United have moved quickly to secure his services for at least another season.
Having played with Claremorris FC last season, Glynn believes full-time football has helped him develop as a player.
“I’m delighted to be offered a contract extension so early into my career at United,” said the Mayo man. “The last two months have been amazing and hopefully this will be the start of something big for me at a professional level in football.”
Commenting on Glynn’s contract extension, Galway United manager Tony Cousins said he believes Glynn has a bright future in football.
“Despite such a big jump from junior football, Derek has proven himself as a prolific goalscorer at this level. The decision to extend his contract is an easy one and I’m looking forward to see what more he can bring to the side over this season and next.”
Cousins is also conscious of the rewards that can be reaped for local players in having a full-time squad, playing at the highest competitive level in Ireland.
“We are always on the look out for the right player and Derek has proven that anybody with potential in the west of Ireland has a chance to play League of Ireland level,” he said.
