Now it gets serious

THE county champions, Crossmolina, are the only team definitely through to the quarter-finals of the Mayo senior football championship after last weekend’s second round fixtures.
Their five point win over Moy Davitts (0) means that they preserve their 100% record and they cannot be caught in Section C with one round remaining.
In Section A, barring a comprehensive defeat in their final match against Garrymore, Ballagh’ are also through to the last eight with two wins from two. Their sixteen point victory over Claremorris leaves them on the brink of qualification with Charlestown (4) sitting on top of Section B.
Section D was blown wide open after Kiltane (2) shocked Knockmore (2) in Bangor and Breaffy (2) hammered Tourmakeady (0). The five-team group is now delicately poised with Castlebar Mitchels (2) also hopeful of progressing.
Scoring difference will be used this year if teams finish level on points so Burrishoole’s (3) draw with Ballinrobe (1) in Section C means that the final round of games will see a scrap for the second qualification spot.
The same situation pertains in Section B with Ballina (2), Louisburgh (2) and Westport (0) all chasing one place while Claremorris (2), Garrymore (2) and Shrule/Glencorrib (0) will have everything to play for too.
In the Intermediate Championship, Aghamore, Crossmolina B and Swinford have all qualified for the quarter-finals.
