THERE will be better games of football played in Mayo this year, but few as exciting as Tuesday’s Connacht Colleges Senior ‘B’ Championship game in Ballindine. Not even extra time could separate St Louis Community School, Kiltimagh and Presentation College, Headford. It was a match neither side deserved to lose.
The story of this game is easily summarised. Kiltimagh got loads of points – 0-18 would win most encounters – but Headford seem able to score a goal whenever proceedings threatened to run away from them. Shane Hennelly, James Walsh and Keith Greaney all netted in the course of the game.
Six Kiltimagh players got on the scoresheet, with freetaker Simon Jordan landing six points. Midfielders Brendan Harrison and Michael Kilduff got three apiece, as did Conor Byrne, while centre back Conor Horan and wing forward Eoghan Lavin were also effective. Headford captain Steven Conroy, substitute Niall Kinneen and goalkeeper Giles Nalty also played their part.
The replay has been scheduled for Ballindine next Wednesday, February 23.
