Pádraig Moran

Obituaries
Garryduff Drive, and Knockthomas, Castleba
Pádraig Moran, Garryduff Drive, and Knockthomas, Castlebar. The sudden and unexpected death took place on August 28 last of Pádraig Moran, aged 49 years, of No 7 Garryduff Drive, and formerly of Knockthomas, Castlebar. Pádraig was the son of the late Martin Moran and Christina (nee Lawless), the second eldest of a family of five brothers and three sisters. Pádraig suffered from Cerebral Palsy and was cared for by both his parents up until the death of his father, Martin, in 1991. His mother, Christina, then looked after Pádraig up until her death in 2000.
For the next five years, Pádraig was cared for in his home place by his older brother, Martin, and sister-in-law, Breda, who became his main carers, supported by their sons, Darren,  Fearghal and daughter, Lorna. Pádraig’s other brothers, John, Michael and Seamus, and sisters, Mary, Christina and Eileen, were all actively involved in supporting Pádraig and his carers during this difficult period.
Despite his disability, Pádraig enjoyed life. He loved to socialise, he loved his music, he loved television and adored his cup of tea. In the last few years of his life, Pádraig lived in a Group Home provided by the Western Care Association, firstly in Knockaphunta and then at No 7 Garryduff Drive, Castlebar. He also attended the Vocational Training Centre on John Moore Road. With Western Care, he loved the freedom and new independence, which allowed him to make life choices for himself.
Pádraig was very special to his family, who miss him dearly. However, they find comfort in the knowledge that the two people who brought Pádraig into this world will now take over from them and look after him in the next world. May he rest in peace.
Pádraig reposed at the residence of his brother, Martin, and sister-in-law, Breda, at Corheens, Breaffy, Castlebar, where prayers were led by Fr McCormack, CC. He was received into the Church of the Holy Rosary by Fr Fergal Cunnane, CC, who was also the celebrant of the Funeral Mass.
Pádraig was laid to rest beside his parents in Turlough Cemetery, where the blessing of the grave was performed by Fr Conal Burns.
He will be sadly missed by his brothers, Martin (Corheens, Breaffy), John (Sligo), Michael (Parke, Castlebar) and Seamus (Castlebar); sisters, Mary Whitney (England), Christina Kearney (Corheens, Breaffy), and Eileen Ainsworth (Corheens, Breaffy); uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and many friends.
Donations in his memory may be made to Western Care Association, c/o Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar.
May he rest in peace.
