Joe Quinn

Obituaries
Joe Quinn, Farmhill, Claremorris
JOE Quinn, Farmhill, Claremorris, who died recently at his residence, spent 14 years in Australia where he worked in the mines. He also spent a further three in New Zealand before returning to his native parish of Crossboyne.
In his early 80s, Joe had been in declining health for some years but died suddenly at the end. It was with regret and sadness that neighbours and friends learned of his passing.
Joe was a popular and esteemed member of the local community around Farmhill and Crossboyne. He and his wife May, nee Flynn, from nearby Curraghadooey, took care of the family farm for many years and maintained a great interest in all matters relating to land and livestock. They were very good friends of the late Jimmy Goggins, formerly of Cartownacross, Claremorris.
Thirteen years ago, Joe and May made the long journey to Australia to attend the 40th anniversary of an Irish Club in Mount Isa near Brisbane. They enjoyed a wonderful three weeks and Joe was thrilled to meet up with so many colleagues from his young days working in Australia. It was a marvellous reunion for all of them and many were the stories that were told and retold from days gone by.
The Quinn family connection with Australia remains strong to this day with three of the family from Farmhill, Walter, Pat and Anita, still residing in that country.
Joe and May enjoyed their regular social outings to Claremorris and Crossboyne and meeting friends and neighbours. For people like Joe, the simple things in life meant so much and brought a lot of contentment.
As a neighbour, he was top class and was very highly thought of by all in the community. He was, in local parlance, a “sound” man who had time for everyone.
Removal took place from Carey’s Funeral Home in Ballindine to Crossboyne church with burial in the local cemetery following Requiem Mass celebrated by Msgr Dermot Moloney, Fr Brendan McGuinness (Joe’s former neighbour), and Fr James Quinn.
Joe is survived by his wife May, brothers Walter and Pat (Australia), sisters Anita (Australia), Teresa Hartigan (Ballindine) and Mary Harte (London), nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
