The death took place of Johnny Walsh on Thursday January 24, 2019. Johnny, as he was known to everyone, was born to his parents Mary and Martin on April 17, 1940 and was one of nine children. As a young man he would have helped his father on the farm and with the deliveries of farm products to businesses around the Westport area. Johnny moved to London as a young man in the early sixties where he worked as a plasterer with his brothers Mattie and Frank and brother-in-law Tom Gallagher. He met his wife Belinda there and they were married in 1969 and they would have been married 50 years this year. Johnny and Belinda were blessed with their daughter Margaret who was born in 1971. Johnny was a man who enjoyed his life and was always up for the “craic”. He worked hard and he also loved a pint. Although away in England his heart was always in Westport and whenever any young person went over to London looking for work he would always make sure they had a bed and found them work until they were in a position to find suitable work themselves, this was something he would take great care in doing as it was very important to him. Johnny and Belinda moved back to the family home in Slogger with their daughter Margaret in the early 1990’s where he returned to farming, he loved looking after his cows and he would spend many an hour talking cattle with his cousins Johnny and Tommy Monaghan and Mart O’Donnell. Due to ill health, he had to give up farming which was a big blow to him as he enjoyed it immensely. In 2005 Johnny’s daughter Margaret had a son Christopher who referred to Johnny as “Gaga” he brought great joy to Johnny and Belinda and they had great fun together. Johnny loved his wife Belinda and they were very suited to each other. His family was everything to him. His daughter Margaret and grandson Christopher were what he lived for and would do anything to ensure they were happy, nothing in the world meant more to him than family and friends. Johnny will be sadly missed by all especially his wife Belinda, daughter Margaret, grandson Christopher, Margaret’s partner Darren and his brother and sisters at home and abroad and all his family and friends. R.I.P Johnny.
