Michael Joe Duffy

The death has occurred of Michael Joe Duffy of Lanmore, Liscarney, Westport.
Michael Joe was born in Lanmore to Mary Kate and Anthony Duffy.
He attended Lankill National School and then went to work in England for a short while. He returned home to run the family farm when his father became ill.
Michael Joe met Bridie Grady of Letterbrok and they married on 10th January 1962 and they went on to have 7 children. Unfortunately, Michael Joe and Bridie were devastated by the untimely deaths of two of their sons- P Joe in 1980 and Tony in 2003.
Michael Joe worked for a number of years with Westport Urban Council and Mayo County Council whilst also running the farm. He loved to meet the neighbours and could be found on a daily basis meeting them for a chat. He loved to socialise and together with Bridie would make the weekend trip to the Castlecourt Hotel where they loved to listen to the music. Unfortunately, Bridie passed away in 2012 following a brief illness and his life was once again shattered. He continued to live in the family home until June 2015 and then moved to live with his daughter Freeda Durkan, her husband Tom and grandchildren Tanya and Duane in Swinford where he was lovingly cared for until his death.
Michael Joe was predeceased by his wife Bridie, sons Tony and P Joe, brother Paddy and sisters Maureen McGough, Tessie Gannon and Delia Duffy. He is survived by his sister Una O’Malley, son John, daughters Angela Duffy, Freeda Durkan, Pauline Duffy and Ann Marie Gavin as well as daughter-in-law Sandra Duffy, sons-in-law Tom Durkan, Michael Joe Duffy and John Gavin and his 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law  and brothers-in-law.
