Maureen Taylor


Chestnut Grove, Westport and formerly of Inishgort Island

The death took place of Maureen Taylor, née Jeffers, Chestnut Grove, Westport and formerly of Inishgort Island, on Thursday, May 17 at the Mac Bride Community Nursing Home, Westport.
Maureen was born on March 25, 1935, the third of six children to Martin and Maura Jeffers. She emigrated to Preston, England in order to help look after her young cousins during their mother’s illness and subsequent untimely death. Maureen then worked for the local bus company in Preston where she was a conductress for over 20 years. Here she met her husband Bob Taylor whom she married in Preston in 1973. Maureen and Bob moved back to Westport in the late nineties. Sadly Bob passed away in June 2003.
Maureen was a very creative person. She was a gifted knitter and enjoyed making beautiful jumpers and cardigans for friends and family. She also loved spending time in her garden and welcoming visitors to her home. She loved chatting with her friends and family and enjoyed an active social life where she went on many trips around Ireland with the Active Retirement Association. Maureen also really enjoyed going to Bingo where she had a great group of friends.
Maureen took ill just after Christmas 2017 and went to Mayo University Hospital where she fought bravely through her illnesses. She was moved to the Pilgrim’s Rest Nursing Home and then onto the MacBride Community Nursing Home where she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, who are so grateful for the wonderful care she received there.
Maureen was predeceased by her husband Bob and her brother Seán. Maureen is survived and sadly missed by her brothers Jim (Donegal) and Joe (Westport), sisters Anna (London) and Christina (Westport), sisters-in-law Julia and Philomena, nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, relatives and a wide circle of friends. Maureen was laid to rest in Myna Cemetery on May 20. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
