The death took place of Marie Louise Shawd, Westport on Sunday, May 13 at the Mac Bride Community Nursing Unit, Westport.
She was born on November 8, 1945 in Scotland. When she was only 19 years old, she lost her dearly loved mother. Shortly afterwards she emigrated to Dublin and married an Aer Lingus pilot. Three children followed; Simon, Stuart and daughter Tara.
Marie Louise flew all over the world with her children, living in places like Singapore and Lagos. She also managed to pursue an acting career - a glorious time in her memories.
Following her divorce, Marie Louise moved to Westport with her second husband, Dick Shawd, in her final and beloved home in Drummindoo.
She loved chatting with her friends and family for hours. She loved her house, her garden and her cat. Widowed in 2001, Marie Louise met her partner, Hemmo Hemmes. Their love and companionship inspired both of them.
Marie Louise spent her final years in hospitals in Castlebar, Galway, Dublin and Dun Laoghaire.
We are so grateful for the wonderful care she received there. Her final months were spent in Mac Bride Community Nursing Unit, Westport. Marie Louise did voluntary work there and was well loved for the hilarious entertainment she offered. She was also a member of the Active Retirement Association, Westport.
A great thank you from Marie Louise and her children to the lovely people who attended Tom Navin’s funeral home on Tuesday, May 15. We listened to many lovely stories about Marie Louise.
She is free at last from her ailing body and she can be in the company of her dear mother.
So, thank you to all of you and may love fill our lives - Simon Crogham (Dublin), Stuart Crogham (London) and Tara Parker (London).
