Maudie McNally

Ballyglass, Clogher, Westport

Maudie McNally (nee Hoban) was born in Graffeybeg, Castlebar, on March 2, 1917. She was one of six children, she had four brothers and one sister, Kate, who died aged 5. Maudie went to work in Castlebar hat factory and married John McNally before they moved to Ballyglass where they lived a happy life on their farm.
They liked music and dancing. Maudie was a lovely singer and sang at many an occasion. Maudie loved having visitors, especially children, they always came away from her home, happy and with a fist full of sweets. Maudie was a farmer at heart and enquired about the animals up top a month before she passed away.
She took care of John at home for a few years when he had Alzheimers. He went to the Pilgrims Rest where she visited him daily, never missing a day for two and a half years, spending many hours with him. She lived independently for the last eight years but one year ago she went to the Pilgrims Rest where they staff took great care of her. She will be sadly missed by the Joyce family, cousins, neighbours and friends.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
