Seán Reilly

Logatemple, Claremorris

Seán Reilly from Logatemple, Claremorris, whose death took place recently, was a man of gentle and quiet disposition who was held in the highest regard by all who knew him over the years.
Seán was a native of Murneen and a member of a well known family in that village in former times. He was predeceased by his brothers Eamon, Paudge, Michael and Jimmy and his sister Nell.
Sean married Kathleen Moran from Roundfort and they raised family of three, daughters Lorraine and Fiona and son Declan.
He worked as a mechanic for many years, first taking up the trade in Staunton’s Garage of Convent Road. He later served as an employee of O’Brien’s Garage in D’Alton Street.
A health issue meant that Seán had to take things easier and so he retired from his work as a garage mechanic. However, he took up a hobby repairing lawn-mowers and such was his proficiency in this line of business that he was soon in major demand.
Summer evenings would see Seán outside the family home chatting away to some of his regular clientele as he went about fixing the lawn-mowers. He found the entire activity therapeutic and relaxing and loved meeting people and chatting away about the news of the day.
Seán was always grateful to the special people in the medical teams that he encountered down through the years. Their attention and treatment enabled him to have a great quality of life considering what he was faced with at the outset. It was an appreciation he carried with him from day to day and he had huge respect for those in the nursing and medical professions.
Seán loved the simple things in life. He had a laid back nature and easy rapport that endeared him to all. He took each day in his stride, a gift to be enjoyed, and he cherished his family and friends.
The friendly wave, the warm smile, the easy going nature of a man at peace with himself and the world, were all part of the life and times of Seán Reilly. He will be remembered with great affection by his family and his many friends.
Following Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr Peter Gannon in St Colman’s Church, Claremorris, burial took place in Kilcolman Cemetery.
Seán is survived by his wife Kathleen, son Declan, daughters Lorraine and Fiona, in-laws, grandchildren, sisters Julia and Una, the family circle, neighbours and friends.
