Dublin and Brampton, Canada
The death occurred last month of Jane Mary O’Connor, formerly of Dublin and Brampton, Canada, aged 71. Jane was the loving wife of Kevin Kennedy, formerly of Mill Street, Westport.
Jane (nee O’Connor) was born in Dublin on September 8, 1945 and it was in the capital city that she met with Westport man Kevin Kennedy in 1965. At that time, Kevin was on a six-month training course with Volkswagen in Dublin when he met the love of his life, and three years later they were married in Dublin, before emigrating to Canada shortly afterwards.
Jane was a voracious reader and an extremely intelligent woman and she and Kevin enjoyed 49 years of marriage, during which they had three children, Samantha, Michael and Robbie, who sadly died at just seven weeks. Jane loved nothing more than spending time with her three grandchildren Connor, Cameron and Amy.
She was predeceased by her brother Marty and is survived by sisters, Tricia, Nancy, Lily and Kay, and brothers Paddy and Tony; son-in-law Mark; daughter-in-law Stacey; her sisters-in-law Una and Sheila and her brothers-in-law Michael and Ray.
A commemoration of Jane’s life was held at The Rose Studio Theatre, 1 Theatre Lane, Brampton, recently.
An honest woman lies at rest
As e’er God with his image blest;
The friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth;
Few hearts like hers, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so informed;
If there’s another world, she lives in bliss,
If there is none, she made the best of this.
