Shepherd’s Bush, London and Leittir, Islandeady, Castlebar
The death took place on March 31 this year, peacefully at her home in Shepherd’s Bush, of Mary Walsh. She was in her sixty-ninth year and passed away surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous fight against a longterm illness. Mary was born to the late Matt and Tessie Neary on January 12, 1948, the eldest of five sisters. She attended Leittir NS and Castlebar Vocational School. Mary started working in Westport shirt factory in the early sixties. It was while working in Westport she met the love of her life, Frank Walsh. They emigrated to Shepherd’s Bush in the late sixties and were married in May 1971. Together they raised a family of four and both worked hard to provide for their family, who were all educated to degree level. They looked forward to their annual visits to Leittir and Slogger and met many friends locally and former work colleagues and neighbours. In January 1997 Mary suffered a devastating blow with the sudden death of her husband Frank. With her family reared Mary took up employment in the local national school where she was a popular figure for over 35 years. She worked up until the time of her illness. In July 2015 Mary was diagnosed with cancer which she fought to the end. Mary was a teaching assistant and senior midday supervisor at Larmenier and Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Hammersmith and worked for over 35 years. She was also involved in REIA in the local church. Mary is survived by her sons Adrian and Robert (London); daughters, Caroline and Jackie (London); daughters-in-law, Sarah and Louise; son-in-law, Jamie; sisters, Kathleen and Josie (Leittir), Chris Kelly (Ballintleva, Clogher,), Teresa Callaghan (Tubberdevine, Lahardaune), sisters-in-law, Belinda Tunney (Cushin), Tina Gallagher (London), Susan Mylette and Kathleen Heneghan (USA); brothers-in-law, Willie Kelly (Ballintleva), Seamus Callaghan (Lahardaune), John Walsh (Slogger) and Mattie Walsh, (Glenisland).
