McNeela Terrace, Westport
The death has taken place of Brendan Quinn, McNeela Terrace, The Quay, Westport, in his 86th year. Brendan was first and foremost a family man. His family meant everything to him - he was always supportive and understanding, and was there when they needed him most.
Brendan was a very kind and thoughtful person, and many have said to his family recently that he was a true gentleman. He was very patient and was always punctual.
Brendan loved listening to music, dancing, playing bowls and shore fishing. In recent years, he was content just listening to his favourite musicians or watching his westerns.
He spent a lot of his time driving. If you didn’t find him at home, you could be sure that you would find him parked on the Mall or Bridge Street watching the world go by. He loved to spend afternoons in his car at the Point, watching the boats and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
He loved the Quay and was on the Quay School Centenary Committee. He played his part in helping the Quay Committee reclaim and restore the pond. Brendan was very proud of coming from the Quay and lived there all his life.
Brendan was not just well-known in Westport, but throughout Connacht. As a gas fitter for Calor, he serviced anywhere from Donegal to Connemara and is affectionately remembered by many as the ‘gas man’. Brendan was always obliging and never failed to lend a helping hand. Brendan will be sadly missed by his son Adrian and daughter-in-law Josy (Mullingar, County Westmeath); daughter Denise Wynne and son-in-law Paul (The Quay, Westport); son-in-law Jim Outram (Sheeroe, Westport); brothers, Liam and Eamon, The Quay, Westport; sister, Linus O’Shea (London); grandchildren, Karen, David, Alan, Niamh, Alex, Natalie, Ben, Jack and Ally; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nephews, nieces and relatives.
Brendan was predeceased by his wife Margaret and his daughter Loretta Outram.
Following the repose at Navin’s Funeral Home, removal took place to St Mary’s Church, Westport. Fr Patrick Burke officiated the reception with Fr Ger Burns. Fr. Ger, a neighbour of Brendan’s, was the chief celebrant at his funeral Mass. Family members participated in the funeral liturgy. Brendan was laid to rest in Aughavale Cemetery. May his kind and gentle soul have peaceful rest.
