The death took place on March 16 of Patrick Donnelly at Mayo University Hospital. His sudden passing shocked the local community. Patrick was born in Derreen, Louisburgh, on March 17, 1939 to the late Winnie (nee Mitchell) and Jimmy Donnelly. He was the eldest of three; brother of Eileen Sell (Derreen, RIP) and Mary Kilcoyne (Shrawee). Patrick was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He had a keen interest in sports, following and also playing in his younger days. He had a love of playing darts and often travelled many miles to a game. He was very proud to be on the winning team of 1964 alongside many of his friends and neighbours.
Patrick was also a member of the FCA and often spoke of his days at Finner Camp in Donegal. He enjoyed the outdoors - a dip in the sea at Old Head when he went to check on his cattle and also an annual cycle around Drummin and the Shefrey Hills with his nephew and nieces.
Patrick was a hard worker and a very good handyman when it came to building and construction and also with his work with the Board of Works and the Land Commission. He also looked after the family farm.
His cousin Myles spoke of Pak’s life during his funeral Mass as gifts symbolising his interests were brought to the altar. He will be very sadly missed by his sister Mary Kilcoyne (Shrawee); brother-in-law, Tommy; nephews, Owen, Jimmy, Tommy and Damien; nieces Mary, Noreen, Eileen and Linda; grandnephews, Sabastian and Marcus and grandniece Grace; cousins, neighbours and friends.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
