Austie Hastings


Coventry, England, formerly of Cregganroe, Louisburgh

The death has taken place in Coventry of Austie Hastings in his ninety-first year. Austie was born in Cregganroe, near Louisburgh, to Michael and Margaret Hastings. He was one of a family of eight children, six boys and two girls. He emigrated to England as a young man and worked in many places throughout the country before settling in Coventry. Austie married Margaret Gannon from Kilsallagh and they set up home at Paxton Road in Coventry and had three children.
Austie loved to have visitors from Ireland, and with Margaret made everyone so welcome. He loved hearing all the news from home, and he himself was a great storyteller. All who visited Coventry loved hearing him talk about his young days in England. Austie was predeceased by his brothers, Johnny, Mick, Paddy and Timmy and his sister Mary. His funeral Mass was celebrated in Christ the King Church in Coventry on March 29, 2017, he was laid to rest in Candley Cemetery.
Austie is survived by his wife, margaret; son, Austin; daughters, Brenda and Jane; daughter-in-law; sons-in-law and grandchildren. He is lso survived by his brother Mylie and sister Bridgie; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
