Cloonkeen, Carrowholly, Westport
The death has taken place at Mayo University Hospital on April 14 last, of Sally Brady (nee Kearney), Cloonkeen, Carrowholly, Westport in her 79th year. Sally passed away peacefully after a long illness surrounded by her loving family.
Sally was born in Cloona on June 13, 1936 to the late Annie and Patrick Kearney, Cloona, Westport.
She went to Derby to her brother’s wedding in 1959 where she met her soul mate Kevin Brady and decided to stay. They married in 1960 and went on to have their first three children in Derby before returning to Ireland and making a home in Carrowholly where they had two other children.
Sally helped her husband Kevin on their farm as well as rearing their five children. She had a special place in her heart for Maíre Maguire who lived with Sally and Kevin for many years. Sally loved socialising and she loved a good party.
She was hard working but she always made time for her family. Sunday dinner was when her family would return home for her beautiful roast and if they were lucky, mum’s delicious ‘savoury spuds’. Her baking was legendary. She loved to bake buns, cakes and pies for her grandchildren. She also knitted many hats and gloves for the ‘Shoe Box Appeal’ each winter. Her faith was very important to her and she attended Mass every Sunday.
Sally loved to travel and enjoyed visits with her husband Kevin to Fatima, Lourdes and Medjugorje. She also had been to USA, Poland and the United Arab Emirates. She loved adventure and even got up on a camel with dad in Abu Dhabi.
Sally was diagnosed with progressive Supranuclear Palsy five years ago and, although it was a debilitating disease, she continued to enjoy life to the full. Sally was eventually confined to a wheelchair but that did not stop her going shopping to SuperValu every Friday and afterwards to the Castlecourt for lunch with her husband Kevin.
Sally was predeceased by her parents Annie and Patrick Kearney, Cloona, Westport, also her brothers Tony and Patrick (RIP).
She is mourned by her husband Kevin, sons Kevin, Pat and Jarlath (Carrowholly, Westport); daughters Ann Brady (Aughagower), Jane Heraty (Carrowholly, Westport); brothers Mark (England), Seán (Cloona); sisters Maureen Heneghan (Partry), Carmel Quinn (The Quay), Rita Reilly and Peggy Kearney (both Ardoley, Westport); 11 grandchildren; daughters-in-law Liz, Anita, Noreen and Caroline, son-in-law Michael Heraty; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; aunt, cousins, extended family and friends.
Sally’s funeral Mass took place on Saturday, April 16th in Myna church with burial afterwards in Myna Cemetery. May her gentle soul have peaceful rest.
