John was a former manager of the now-defunct grocery premises of J F O’Malley, Bridge Street, Westport, and was also involved in farming.

A representative cortege accompanied his removal from McGing’s Funeral Home to the Church of the Holy Family, Fahy, where Fr Jim Walsh, PP, officiated at the reception ceremony.
The concelebrants of John’s Funeral Mass were Fr Jim Walsh and Fr Pat Donnellan, PP, Islandeady.
Family members read the lessons and prayers of the faithful and brought the offertory gifts to the altar.
In his homily, Fr Walsh paid tribute to John as a devoted husband, father and community man. He had been hard-working and industrious throughout his life and, when it came to caring for his family, no task was too great to undertake.
Fr Walsh said John was also a man of deep faith and he showed that faith in every aspect of his daily life. “On behalf of all the people of the parish I extend sympathy to Anne and all the family on their sad loss. John was laid to rest in Fahy Cemetery.
May his soul have peaceful rest.
