Brockagh, Fahy, Westport

The death has taken place peacefully on January 28, 2014 of James (Sonny) Heneghan, Brockagh, Fahy, Westport.  In his 99th year, he was born in Brockagh, Fahy on August, 31, 1914.  Sonny lived there all his life, working on the family farm and tending to his daily chores. Sonny married Mai O Brien in November, 1945. They were happily married for 61 years.
Throughout his life, Sonny Heneghan had a deep love for music. He was an accomplished accordion player and enjoyed listening and playing with friends. He had a great social life and enjoyed the “craic”. He enjoyed going to Newport and the Clew Bay Hotel to meet up with lifelong friends for the chat and a drink. He was an accomplished darts player and won many competitions. He also enjoyed a good game of cards especially “25” at Christmas with family and friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mai in September 2007 and his granddaughter, Vivienne (Madden) in June 1999. He is survived by his daughters Mary (Madden), Teresa (Fitzgerald), his sons Seamus, Padraic and John. He is fondly remembered by his 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, sons-in-law Joe (Madden), Pat (Fitzgerald) and daughters-in-law Ann and Mary, brother-in-law, John O’Brien, nephews and nieces, family and friends.
He reposed at McGing’s funeral home on the Friday evening and afterwards the funeral cortege made its way to Holy Family Church, Fahy.  After requiem Mass, he was laid to rest in  Fahy Cemetery.  To his family, relatives and friends, we extend our sincerest sympathies. May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace.
