London and Castlebar
Danny, as he was known to his friends, was aged 59 years and was single. He was son of the late Christopher and the late Christina Cresham. He was brother of Brendan Cresham (Rathbawn, Castlebar), Julie Cusack (McHale Road, Castlebar), Geraldine Peterson (Rathbawn Avenue, Castlebar), Connie Cresham (Drumconlon Close), Peter Cresham (London), Ann Gillespie (Donegal Town), Patricia Anderson (Wales) and Mary Purcell (Spain). He was also brother of the late Bernadette, who died in infancy. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, relatives and friends.
In his early years, Danny worked as a fitter welder at the Castlebar Bacon Company. He was an excellent footballer and a well-known boxer in his youth. He emigrated to England as a young man and it was there he was to spend the rest of his life. He worked in various places in England as a fitter and as a driver of earth-moving machinery. He had many friends in England and was very involved in the Irish community there.
Removal took place from Ireland-West Airport, Knock, to the home in McHale Road, Castlebar, where Danny was born, and where a wake was held.
Prayers at Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, were led by Rev Fr Fergal Cunnane, CC, Castlebar. Many of Danny’s friends and former colleagues walked behind the hearse on its journey to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, where he was received by Fr Cunnane, assisted by Rev Canon Paddy Curran, PP. The chief celebrant of the Funeral Mass was Fr Cunnane, assisted by Fr Curran. Members of Danny’s family read the lessons and the prayers of the faithful and brought the gifts to the altar. Music was by the Castlebar Church Choir and the soloist was Michael Feeney, who was a life-long friend of Danny’s.
After Mass, Danny was laid to rest in the old cemetery in Castlebar, beside his parents. The blessing of the grave was performed by Fr Cunnane.
May his noble soul rest in peace.
