Festival brochure

Ballina Festival Committee is keen to source photos for inclusion in this year’s brochure and would ask anyone with colourful, funny, or unusual photos to send them to the Festival Office at the Parochial Hall, Kevin Barry Street, Ballina. Please put name, address and contact number on back if you would like them returned.

Painting workshops

During April, local artist Irene Hegarty is leading a series of four workshops for children in the art of painting The theme for this series is “Animals”. The children will explore and experiment with a wide variety of materials, such as clay, paint, plastic, card, mosaic and Batik.

Ticket price is €32 for four workshops. Pre-booking is essential for the workshops which take place on Saturdays April 1, 8, 22 and 29, from 10.30am to 12 noon for 5-7 year olds; 1pm to 2.30pm for 8-10 year olds. Parrents and babies

A parent and baby support group for pre-walkers meets each Monday from 11am to 12.30pm except Bank Holidays in the Newman Institute, Barrett Street, Ballina. For further details contact 096 73637/33030.

Ger Wolfe concert

Celebrated singer-songwriter Ger Wolfe, with his band the New Skylarks, will perform in the Newman Institute on Thursday, April 6, at 8pm. Tickets €12 (€10 concession). For booking and further information contact Ballina Arts Centre at 096 73593.

A parents’ information evening will be held for parents of all incoming first years on Thursday, April 6 at 8.30pm.

Arts Centre exhibition

Ballina Arts Centre’s Visual Art programme continues with Process and Flow, an exhibition of paintings by Juliet de la Mer. Based in Co. Clare, Juliet uses commercial materials like MDF, aluminium and acrylic sheeting, combined with enamel and household paint. The exhibition runs until April 1.

Guitar concert

The Maynooth Guitar Orchestra will perform in St Michael’s Church, Ballina on Friday, March 31 at 8pm. The 12-member ensemble comprises mainly students from NUI Maynooth College, and specialises in new music - much of it composed by members of the group. Tickets €12 (€10 concession). St Vincent de Paul

SAINT Vincent de Paul in Teeling Street, Ballina, requires Communion clothes and shoes for girls and boys. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.

GROW

GROW groups support people who have experienced anxiety, depression, panic attacks, isolation or despair. At the group you will find friendship, honesty, acceptance, encouragement and support in gradually taking more responsibility and control in your own life. Confidentiality is assured. Alpha course

An Alpha course is being held on Tuesday nights during Lent and Easter at St Michael’s National School, Ardnaree. The course is being led by the Grace Ministries team and hosted by St. Michael’s Church of Ireland in conjunction with the North Mayo Ecumenical committee.

Dancing classes

Classes in waltzing, jiving and foxtrot have started in the Garden Inn on Wednesdays at 8.30pm. All are welcome.

Volunteers needed

Ballina Neighbourhood Youth Project needs male volunteers for its Big Brother Big Sister mentoring programme. If interested contact Majella or Stephanie on 096 22012.

Active retirement

Meetings are held each Thursday morning at 10.30am, immediately after Mass, in the Pastoral Centre. So why not come along and get to know Active Retirement members.

Teens’ drop-in centre

Ballina Neighbourhood Youth Project is running a group on Monday evenings for 15-to-18 year olds from 5pm to 6.30pm. Activities include pool, table tennis, playstation, karaoke, art, computers and team games. All are welcome.

Childminding network

Irish classes

Behy set dancing

Set dancing classes continue in Behy National School hall on Sundays at 8.30pm. All are welcome.

Céilí

A Céilí is held in Rehins Social Centre on Sunday nights from 9pm to midnight. Refreshments are served.

Music for adults

Irish music practice continues at the Merry Monk each Thursday at 8pm. Tuition is available each night. New members always welcome. Adults only.

Whist

Cards are played every Friday in the Nursing Home at 8.45pm sharp. Everyone is welcome, refreshments are served.

Bingo

The Stephenites bingo continues every Thursday night with a prize fund of €1,420 and a jackpot of €380 on 48 numbers or less. Also, a Sunday night prize fund of €1,700 with a jackpot of €255. Starting time on both nights is 8.30pm sharp.

Moy Club

There will be a 25card game every Friday, at 9.30pm. All are welcome.

The Stephenites 25 drive card game continues in the clubhouse every Monday night, commencing at 9.30pm.
