HUNDREDS gathered to pay their respects at the funeral of the Ballina resident who was fatally injured in a collision in the town centre last week.
Mary Mitchell (née Cafferty), a resident of Marian Crescent in the town, died tragically after she was struck by a truck on O’Rahilly Street, Ballina on Tuesday morning last. The accident occurred at approximately 8.30am. The 65-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and the street remained closed to facilitate forensic examination until 6pm Tuesday evening.
Mrs Mitchell was a familiar face in the town and hundreds of people gathered to say their final farewell to her on Friday evening last and again on Saturday morning for the funeral Mass at 12.30 in St Patrick’s Church. Following Mass, Mary Mitchell was brought to her final resting place in Leigue Cemetery.
