THE woman whose remains were discovered in a Castlebar apartment on Thursday afternoon last has been named.
Ms Maureen Clancy, originally from England but living in Castlebar for three years, was found in her residence, 4 Cherrywood, by the property manager of apartments on Station Road, after he gained access to her apartment.
Owing to circumstances surrounding the discovery, the County Pathologist alerted State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy. She travelled to Castlebar and performed the post-mortem on the same evening. Her conclusion was that the woman died from natural causes. However, the precise time of death is not yet known, although she is believed to have been dead for a number of days.
Reportedly, she was last seen two weeks before her body was discovered. Gardaí do not suspect foul play. Her remains will be removed from Kilcoyne Funeral Homes today (Tuesday) at 11am, and will be brought to Mount Jerome Crematorium in Dublin for committal service at 3.15pm.
