THE Cornamóna man who died tragically in south-east Asia was laid to rest at Ross Hill Cemetery on Sunday last.
Twenty-eight-year-old Donal Ó Cadhain (Coyne), Ballydoolough, Cornamóna, drowned in a water accident in Laos on Sunday, July 27, during the tail-end of a nine-month world trip. The deceased was due to return home in a few weeks’ time.
On one of his internet social networking sites, Mr Ó Cadhain had stated: “I’m on a tour of the world and it’s fantastic. Plan to be home in August before settling down for a year or two and doing it all over again in different places.”
In a tragic twist of fate, Mr Ó Cadhain had overcome an illness to complete his studies at Sligo IT and travel the world, taking in Thailand, Australia and south-east Asia.
Government Minister Éamon Ó Cuív, a neighbour and friend of the Ó Cadhains, publicly expressed his sympathy to the family last week.
Just over a week ago, Nuala Ní Chadhain, the sister of the deceased, left a message on his Bebo page, outlining how the family ‘received some terrible news’.
“To all of you who met Donal during his travels, he was living his dream and we are glad that you all contributed to it. We know how much he’ll be missed by all.”
It is understood that friends of the north Galway man raised the alarm when he did not return from a day trip involving water sports.
Donal Ó Cadhain is survived by his parents Liam and Bríd; sisters Caitríona, Nuala, Sorcha and brothers Pádhraig and Breandán.
His remains reposed at Burke’s Funeral Home, Clonbur on Saturday evening last with Funeral Mass in the Scared Heart Church, Cornamóna, before burial at Ross Hill Cemetery.
