THE OPENING of the new Tesco store in Ballinrobe has been brought forward to early September.
The retail giants will open their doors to the public on September 8 and interviews for jobs at the new outlet will get under way next week.
Hundreds of applications have been received for the estimated 80 positions within the store. A member of the Tesco recruitment staff said they were looking forward to the opening of the store in early September and were concentrating on employing as many local people as possible for the store.
The new store, which is currently under construction at Friarsquarter West on the Claremorris Road, will be Tesco’s fifth Mayo outlet.
Tesco Ireland have major plans for the Ballinrobe outlet with an application for planning permission for a filling station lodged to Mayo County Council last month. The application includes permission to erect a four-island petrol filling station incorporating kiosk/shop, forecourt canopy, a carwash, underground storage tanks and advertising signage including an internally illuminated topem sign. A decision is due on the application early next month.
