Three Castlebar FF cumainn may unite

THE FIANNA FÁIL organisation in Mayo plans to amalgamate the three Castlebar cumainn in a bid to reunite the organisation and increase its number of councillors ahead of next year’s local elections.
The Mayo News understands that this proposed strategy was decided upon at a meeting held between Party Secretary, Mr Sean Dorgan, and local activists on Monday (June 30) last.
It is also understood that, over recent weeks, meetings were held with members of the Johnny Jordan cumann, the dissolved Micheál Ó Mórain cumann – of which both Pádraig and Beverley Flynn were members – and with the Comhairle Dáil Cheantair.
While Secretary of the Comhairle Dáil Cheantair and of the Johnny Jordan cumann, Mr Eamonn Joyce, declined to comment on the details of the strategy until members are advised at a meeting scheduled for Monday, July 14 next, he confirmed that such a way forward had been discussed.
“Our aim is to reunite the organisation. After all, the important thing is to achieve a good result for the party in next year’s local and European elections,” said Mr Joyce.
He confirmed that Cllr Sean Bourke will contest next year’s elections. However, Mr Denis Gallagher, tipped to be a candidate, told The Mayo News he had not yet decided.
