Reek airlift

News
Mountain climber airlifted from the Reek

Murrisk
An Army helicopter was required to airlift a woman off Croagh Patrick on St Patrick’s Day, after she fell and sustained a head injury and a fractured arm on the cone section of the mountain, close to the summit.
Teams from Mayo Mountain Rescue and the Order of Malta were in the area as back-up to the Seven-Day Charity Challenge which was taking place on the mountain at the time, and tended to the victim – who was not part of the group climbing the mountain to raise funds for Mayo Autism Action. It was then deemed necessary to call in air support and when the helicopter arrived from Finner Camp in Donegal, a crew member and basket were lowered onto the mountain to secure the climber, before she was winched up and flown to Mayo General Hospital. It is expected that she will make a full recovery.
