Westport woman wins €29,000, 24 years after her mum appeared on the same game show

A Westport woman won €29,000 on the National Lottery TV game show Winning Streak last Saturday, 24 years after her mother appeared on the RTÉ One programme.
Emer O’Grady was delighted with her Winning Streak haul of €29,000 and spoke of how she learned her ticket was pulled from the drum the week before.
Emer had just left her mother’s house last Saturday evening and was driving home when she got a call from her mum, Anne, who was very excited. She told her daughter that her name was pulled out of the Winning Streak drum. Emer thought it was a practical joke and initially didn’t believe her mum, until a glut of calls came in from other friends and family congratulating her.
Emer’s Winning Streak luck is something she credits her mum with as Anne was the one who told her to sign the back of a scratch card the week before. Anne has the magic Winning Streak touch as she appeared on the show way back in February 1995 then presented by Mike Murphy, and won £6,000 Irish punts. Emer was in the audience that day cheering her mum on and last weekend, almost 25 years later, the roles were reversed.
Emer is with her partner Seán, who is from Cavan, for more than five years. She works as a pharmacy validation engineer in Allergan. She has worked in her current role for more than a year, having initially worked in the laboratory having joined Allergan in 2015. In her spare time, Emer loves the outdoors and often spends a lot of her weekends on hikes and walks in the hills and forests of beautiful Westport. With her winnings from the show Emer says that she will treat her parents to something nice!
The National Lottery game show is co-presented by Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy and features some perennial favorite games including Play or Pay, Roll for Riches, WinFall and Electric Dream – where one player will win an electric car worth €25,000.
