ICONIC The Asgard Bar and Restaurant at the Quay in Westport may be set to re-open.
A LANDMARK Westport bar and restaurant, which has been closed for over five years, has been bought by a local hotel group.
The Asgard Bar and Restaurant, located at The Quay in Westport, was purchased at the end of April by Hotel Ac Westport Unlimited Company, which also own the neighbouring Coast Hotel at the Quay.
The company is controlled by the Corcoran family who also own the Castlecourt Hotel and Plaza Hotel in Westport. Director of the company, Joe Corcoran, appeared in Westport District Court last week where an application was made to transfer the Asgard’s publican licence into the name of the company.
Mr Corcoran explained to Judge Fiona Lydon that the Asgard has not traded for a number of years and it needed substantial renovations and refurbishment. No indication was given of whether the Asgard will re-open in the near future.
Inspector Denis Harrington said there was no garda objection to the application. Judge Lydon granted the application and wished Mr Corcoran all the best in the new venture.
