Double acts for birthday boys

SEEING DOUBLE Pictured celebrating the 80th birthday of Pat and Seán Morrin in The Neale last weekend were three other sets of twins from the Morrin family, Thomas and Ronan Morrin (second generation); Zack and Sophia Hamri (third generation) and Nathan and Ollie Morrin (fourth generation).

WELL, they have been a double act since World War II and Dev brought in rationing through the Emergency but birthday boys and twins Pat and Seán Morrin, originally from The Neale, still had plenty of blowing power for their 80th birthday cake at their party at the weekend. Add in the fact that there were three more generations of twins – Thomas and Ronan Morrin; Zack and Sophia Hamri; Nathan and Ollie Morrin – and the 90 revellers, family and old friends, could be forgiven for thinking they were seeing double in Lydon’s Lodge, Cong. For their niece, Evangeline Morrin, it was ‘great craic’ to see so many of the extended family gathering together for the shindig over the weekend.
Speaking to The Mayo News last night, she said: “Both Pat and Seán left their home county after they finished school to work in construction in England but they return to their native place, at least once a year. Seán still lives in London and Pat lives in Wexford. It was such a lovely catch-up for all the cousins and to have four generations of twins together.” And age was just a number for Seán and Pat who lasted until the small hours, helped, of course, by the music of Martin Coyne and Kelly Fitzhenry.
Evangeline Morrin could well work as a genealogist after giving details on the cross-generational twins to The Mayo News. So first generation Pat and Seán are her Dad’s brothers; Thomas and Ronan both live in Mayo and are her brothers; Zack and Hamri, aged 15, are her first cousins and live in London; and, finally (phew!), Nathan and Ollie are Pat’s great-grandchildren and live near him in Co Wexford. Happy Birthday to one and all!
