Castlebar launch of Big Tom book

News

All is set for the Mayo launch of the book ‘Big Tom - The King of Irish Country’ in Bridge St bar, Castlebar, this Friday night (November 30).
The launch, in association with the Castle Book and Card Centre, Castlebar, was originally scheduled for early November but had to be postponed due to a McBride family (Big Tom clan) bereavement.
Friday’s launch, which will be performed by Michael Commins of The Mayo News and Midwest Radio, will be at 7pm.
The book, by Tom Gilmore, and published by O’Brien Press, has now spent two months in the Irish Top 20 best sellers list and is currently at number 16 having reached a high of number five a few weeks ago.
It is expected to be a big seller on both sides of the Irish Sea over the Christmas season.
The UK launch of the book Big Tom – The King of Irish Country will take place in The Irish World Heritage Centre, Cheatham Hill, Manchester.
British-based, but Galway-born, veteran UK TV host and broadcaster Martin Logan, will be the guest speaker at the event.
Martin, who was born in Ballygar but moved first to Cong and later to the UK with his family as a teenager will also film a half hour segment for his magazine-style TV show, The Irish in the UK, from the book launch. It will be screened in three weeks time on Sky’s Showcase channel 455.
