Funeral of David Gavin to take place on Friday

THE funeral of David Gavin (26), who died tragically in a swimming accident in Canada last summer, will take place this Friday.
The remains of the Breaffy man will arrive into Dublin Airport on Wednesday, after they were discovered ten months after he went missing. The talented footballer got into difficulty after jumping from a bridge at Kinbasket Lake in British Columbia on June 30 last.
Parents Mick and Angela, sister Aoife and partner Ciara O’Malley, along with team mates, extended family, friends and the wider communities of Breaffy and Castlebar will gather at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, at 1pm on Friday to pay their final tributes. The funeral Mass is due to take place at 3pm.
An expression of gratitude and thanks from the Gavin family was read across the PA system at Sunday’s Connacht Senior Football Quarter Final betwen Galway and Mayo. The family thanked GAA fans for their financial support in allowing an extended search for David’s remains.
The message was met with prolonged applause. David will be laid to rest in Breaffy Cemetery.
