WESTPORT Community Pharmacist Tom Treacy is in the running to be named The Pharmaton People’s Pharmacist of the Year 2018.
Based in Treacy’s Pharmacy in Westport, Tom (pictured) has made it through to the finalist stage of the People’s Pharmacist Award for his hard work and determination to help people when they need it.
Each finalist was nominated for the award by their local community for their continued excellence of service throughout the years, and voting closes tomorrow (Friday).
Noreen McDonnell who nominated Tom has been visiting her pharmacy for as long as she can remember.
Entering her nomination, Noreen said, ‘My whole family go to Tom. There are seven of us, as well as my parents and grandparents. I’ve moved to Kerry now, but Tom is still my pharmacist and my parents collect my prescriptions for me.’
Noreen continued, “He knows every medication and, most importantly, he knows my medical history and if I should or shouldn’t take a particular medication.
“There have been times where an illness will overwhelm me and I’ll find myself in tears. Tom is fantastic for taking me to one side and calming me down. There have been times where I don’t know what I would have done without him, and he doesn’t have to do half of what he does.”
The Pharmaton’s People’s Pharmacist of the Year Award is unique, as it is nominated and voted for solely by the general public on the excellent services provided by their local pharmacist in promoting health and wellbeing in the community.
The winner will be announced at the Irish Pharmacy Awards on May 12 in Dublin, which recognise and reward excellence, dedication and ongoing innovation in the Irish community pharmacy sector.
