Father threatened to kill his partner

A man who told his partner he would kill her has told a District Court it was ‘a stupid mistake’.
Castlebar District Court heard that during a domestic dispute on July 2, 2017, John Moore of 53 Cois Abhainn, Turlough Rd, Castlebar, threatened his partner saying: ‘I will f***ing kill you, I’m going to kill you’.
Gardaí were at the scene at 4.45am when the threats were made at the home where the couple were living with their two children, now aged three and a half and 15 months. His partner was in fear and was removed from the property with her children and driven to Belmullet.
The court heard Mr Moore had two previous convictions dating back to 2000 and 2002, for handling stolen property and assault, respectively.
Taking the stand, Mr Moore said he was drunk on the night but that he and his partner had been living together the past four to five months and he was helping to raise his children.
The court was told that Moore has a total of six children.
His solicitor Gary Mulchrone described the nature of the incident as ‘despicable’ which his client agreed with. Moore said there had not been any issue since and it was ‘fully finished with’. Judge Mary Devins put the matter back to March 6, 2019 for penalties.
