Knock couple die a day apart

Michael Commins

A couple who came to reside in Knock around twelve years ago died a day apart in the Ave Maria Nursing Home in Tooreen last week. They had both been in declining health for some time.
Philip and Dorothea Collins resided at Drumcrest, Knock, since settling in Mayo. It is understood that Phil, who was in his mid-90’s, was from the south of Ireland.
Dorothea, who was in her 80’s, was formerly from Zimbabwe, Africa. She was a regular member of the choir at Knock Church and made many friends in the area over the last decade.
The two coffins were side by side for the reposing ceremony at the Marian Funeral Home, Knock, on Thursday evening. Fr Nigel Woollen celebrated the Funeral Mass in the Basilica of Our Lady at 12 noon on Saturday with burial afterwards in the local cemetery.
Philip and Dorothea are survived by their family circles, neighbours and friends.
