They say good things comes in threes and that has definitely been the case for Kate and Craig Buckley from Barrack Street, Charlestown these last two weeks.
Kate, aged 10, scooped not one but two lotto prizes in the town the weekend before last. Not to be outdone, her brother Craig, aged 12, won two much sought-after tickets for the upcoming Manchester United v Sevilla Champions League game in Old Trafford.
In the space of just 48 hours, Kate Buckley won €700 in the lotto draws for Charlestown Athletic soccer club and Charlestown Sarsfields GAA.
On the Friday night, she was the winner of the 50/50 jackpot in the soccer draw, winning a tidy €400 and before the weekend was over, she won €300 as the ‘lucky dip’ winner in the GAA draw.
One week later it was her brother Craig who won the coveted prize in the soccer draw, the two Manchester United tickets.
Kate’s parents Seán and Emma Jane have been entering their kids in the local sports lottos since they were born and all that support has paid dividends. Kate and Craig’s older sister Zoe might well be next in luck.
Kate has smartly decided to put her winnings into a savings account and her mother Emma Jane says Kate was ‘very excited’ by the win.
She’s a big sports fan and plays with both Charlestown Athletic and Charlestown Sarsfields. It’s no surprise to find out that her favourite player is local hero, Mayo midfielder Tom Parsons.
