McWilliam Park Hotel sells for €9 million

THE McWilliam Park Hotel in Claremorris has been purchased by Dublin-based Davy Real Estate for a sum in the region of €9 million. The sale was handled by JLL Ireland based in Hatch Street, Dublin.
The McWilliam Park is now in the same group as the Diamond Coast Hotel in Enniscrone, Mount Wolseley in Tullow, Co Carlow, The Anner Hotel in Thurles, Farnham Estate in Cavan, the Metro Hotel in Dublin and a number of others.
The 103 bedroom hotel has become one of the best known in the province and attracts a regular clientele, especially for country music dances, which creates a subsequent major spin-off for the town.
Local Independent councillor, Richard Finn, who is the current Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, says the purchase of the hotel safeguards the long-term future of the hotel. “This is good news for Claremorris town and hinterland. The McWilliam is an important part of the infrastructure of the town for the last twelve years. It contributed greatly to Claremorris during the recession and is now well poised to realise even more potential as it has become such a well known name all over the country.
“I understand all the existing staff will be retained and it is business as usual at the hotel.  The new owners have worldwide experience in the hotel business. The Davy Group has now signed the contract documents on behalf of the consortium which I understand is guided by a prominent European investor. We wish them well and we hope the hotel will remain a central player in the community life of the region for a long time to come,” said Cllr Finn.
