Nominations are now open for the 2018 ‘Mayo Person of the Year’, ‘Meitheal of the Year’ and ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year’ Awards, which will be presented at the annual Mayo Dublin Association Banquet – newly rebranded as The Yew Tree Ball – on Saturday, February 10, 2018 in Dublin’s Ballsbridge Hotel.
The annual awards banquet serves to recognise and acknowledge those individuals and organisations who are making a significant difference within our communities. The 2018 awards will be sponsored by Connolly Motor Group, and all proceeds raised will be in aid of our charity partner – Mayo Mental Health Association.
To qualify for the ‘Virginia Gallagher Mayo Person of the Year Award’ the nominee must have been born in Mayo or be of Mayo parentage, has lived in Mayo for not less than seven years and has made an exceptional contribution to Mayo or its people.
The ‘Meitheal of the Year Award’ is presented to a voluntary group or organisation based in Mayo, whose majority of members were born in Mayo or be of Mayo parentage, and who have achieved the greatest distinction or done most for the county or its people.
Launched in 2017, the ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year Award’ is presented to a young person who must be under the age of 25 (as of January 1, 2018), who was born in Mayo or has lived in Mayo for not less than seven years. The award is to recognise and acknowledge the positive influence which young people can have on their peers and on the lives of others.
