Well-known Westport garage Tim Hastings Ltd has closed.
The garage, based at Sheeaune, closed its doors on Friday evening.
It had been a long-standing Volkswagen dealership and was previously based on The Fairgreen in Westport town.
In a short statement, Managing Director Tim Hastings confirmed the news.
“I would like to make it known, that after 47 years I am now retiring from the motor trade. It has been my pleasure to have operated a garage business in my home town of Westport for so many years.
“I would like to extend our sincere thanks to all who supported us through the years. It has been greatly appreciated by my family.
“Finally, I extend our very best to all our customers now and in the future,” Mr Hastings said.
When contacted by The Mayo News, a spokesperson for Tim Hastings Ltd said the garage is being sold but the sale has not been completed.
As of Friday, the garage is closed for business. It remained closed yesterday.
Management dismissed reports circulating on social media that deposits for 181 cars could be lost.
“There were never any deposits taken for any date beyond what we could honour,” said the spokesperson.
In the run-up to the garage’s closure, 13 people were employed there. The spokesperson said ‘most’ of these employees have found alternative employment.
