Westport Arts Festival looking for people to capture a piece of the town’s history today
Today, Thursday September 7, is the 250th day of Westport’s 250th year, and Westport Arts Festival invite you to take a photo before midnight of something about the people and the town that you like, as part of a novel new project the are running ahead of the festival itself later this month.
Your picture can be of anything in the town - the bridges on the mall, your favourite butcher, the clock, steps down to the water at the Quay, flowers in your garden, the people in your living room, a special building on the Mall, a feature on a house that you have noticed, as they are looking for the iconic views, intimate moments, offbeat byways, quirky settings, or a picture of a covey young or old.
Each image will mark what’s unique and much-loved about the community. So, if you have a moment today, September 7, the 250th day of the town’s 250th anniversary year, grab your phone, tablet or camera and capture the people and places of Westport. Whether you're a polished professional or an aspiring amateur, join the fun and help mark this historic year. To submit you image, upload your photos to the festival website, westportartsfestival.com – digital only . All entries must be received between September 7 and 11.59pm on September 11. All photos and a credit to each photographer will be included in the festival's official digital display for the duration of the event, and a selection of them will also appear in The Mayo News.
From the submissions received, a panel of local people and photographers will make a selection of photos for publication in a book. This will be a unique memento of Westport’s 250th year and will mark the contribution that each person makes to the town. This special limited edition Westport 250 commemorative collection will be sold in shops around town until Christmas.
